Biography

Carlos Andrés Alzate Pérez was born in Tuluá Colombia in 1980. His high school years were spent in Salesiano College in Tuluá.

In 1997 he moved to Manizales to study Electronic Engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL). He graduated with honors in 2002 with the thesis: “Online Seismic Event Detection using Artificial Neural Networks and Statistical Methods”.

He received a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence in 2004 and the Ph.D degree in Engineering in 2009 at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. His doctoral dissertation was entitled “Support Vector Methods for Unsupervised Learning”.

He is currently a postdoctoral fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) at the SCD research division of the Department of Electrical Engineering (ESAT) of the K.U.Leuven.
